We suggest you unfold your rug as soon as possible to allow it to begin settling. You may notice lines or creases in your rug when you first lay it out. These are completely normal and not permanent. Jute fibres can be a little stiffer than other materials, so it may take a week or two, helped along by some light furniture weight, to lie fully flat.
Everyday
Vacuum gently on a low suction setting, without the beater bar or rotating brush - jute fibres can loosen and shed if brushed too hard. A shake-out outdoors works well for smaller rugs.
If something spills
Blot it straight away with a clean, dry cloth. Start at the outside edge of the mark and work inwards, so you gather the spill together instead of pushing it wider.
Do not use water to clean it. Jute absorbs moisture quickly, and a wet cloth or carpet washer can leave a watermark, cause the fibres to darken or brown, or make the rug shrink and pucker as it dries.
Being straight with you: jute is a natural fibre and not stain resistant. Dry-blot a spill immediately and most of it lifts. Add any water to the mix and it very likely leaves a permanent mark.
Jute
Jute is a natural plant fibre, so unlike synthetics it soaks up moisture rather than letting it sit on the surface. Keep it out of bathrooms, entryways that get wet shoes, and anywhere it might be mopped over. For anything beyond a light dry-clean, it's worth calling in a professional rug cleaner rather than treating it yourself. Not suitable for machine washing or steam cleaning.
If anything does go wrong, our team sorts it out. A person, not a form.

Frequently asked questions
How long does delivery take?
Free delivery on every rug to UK mainland addresses. Order before 12pm on a working day and your rug is dispatched the same day. Couriers do not deliver on bank holidays, and a small number of rural postcodes carry a courier surcharge that is shown at checkout before you pay. Your tracking number is emailed as soon as the parcel leaves us. Full details are in our shipping and return policy.
Can I return a rug if it is not right?
Yes. You have 30 calendar days from the day your rug is delivered to start a return. For rugs up to 90 cm wide, book a free Royal Mail return label and drop the parcel at any post office. For larger sizes, message us with your order number and we arrange a collection from your address. Please repack the rug in its original packaging, because rugs that reach us damaged cannot be refunded.
Which rug size should I choose?
Measure your furniture first, then the floor. In a living room, 160x230 cm sits well under a 3 seater sofa with the front legs on the rug, and 200x290 cm carries a full seating group in a larger room. Bedrooms usually want 120x170 cm beside the bed or 200x290 cm under a double, while hallways and galley kitchens suit an 80x300 cm runner. For dining rooms, allow about 60 cm of rug past the table on every side so chairs stay on the pile when they are pulled out, and our guide on how to choose the ideal rug for your room works through this room by room.
How do I clean and look after my rug?
Vacuum regularly and blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside of the mark inwards. Avoid soaking the rug, because a backing that stays wet for a long time can change shape. Many of our rugs are stain resistant rather than stain proof, so the sooner you deal with a spill the better the result. Full instructions, including wool and shaggy pile, are in our rug care guide.
What are your rugs made from?
Most of our rugs are woven from heat set polypropylene, which handles daily traffic and holds its colour, and the range also includes wool, viscose and jute pieces. Every product page lists pile material, backing, pile height, pile weight, construction and origin in the specification panel, so you can check the detail before you buy. Rugs tested to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 show that certification in the same panel. Where a rug suits underfloor heating, the product page says so.
Will the rug slide on hard floors?
On wood, tile and laminate a rug can shift, so we recommend a non-slip underlay, which also adds a little cushioning and protects the pile. A dense low pile with a jute backing sits flatter from the start than a deep shaggy pile. Creases from folding are normal and usually settle within a few days to a week once the rug is unrolled. You can add a rug gripper to your order from our rug accessories.
