Expert Tips For Under Your Bed When Choosing An Area Rug

Apr 18, 2023

Having to get out of bed in the morning can be tough, especially when you're faced with a cold bedroom floor. One way to make this task easier is to add an area rug to your bedroom. By choosing a rug that's large enough to provide a soft landing for your feet, you can make the transition from bed to floor much more comfortable. This is true even if you already have wall-to-wall carpeting in your bedroom - adding a cozy area rug under your bed can help to dampen noise and bring some color, texture, and pattern to the space. Additionally, an area rug can make a small bedroom appear larger than it actually is. If you're not sure what size rug to choose for your bed, there are some guidelines you can follow to ensure that it's well-proportioned.

Choosing the right size area rug for your bedroom may seem like a straightforward task, but it's actually a bit more complicated than it appears. While a square or rectangular rug can work well under any size bed, you'll also need to take into account other furniture in the room, such as nightstands and a bench. It's important to ensure that the rug you choose is large enough to accommodate all of these pieces, and that it doesn't look too small for the space. There are several options available when it comes to placing an area rug under your bed:

  • One option is to have only the bed frame itself sitting on the rug.
  • Another option is to have the entire bed frame, as well as nightstands and a bench at the foot of the bed, all resting on the rug.
  • Alternatively, you can choose to have only the lower two-thirds of the bed, along with the bench at the foot of the bed, on the rug, leaving the head of the bed and any nightstands on the bare or carpeted floor.
  • Finally, you can opt to have only the lower third of the bed and the bench at the foot of the bed on the rug, which will leave most of the bed on the bare floor and more of the rug extending into the rest of the room. This option is a good choice if you are placing a smaller area rug over carpeting to add color and texture to the room.

If you have a small bedroom, it's a good idea to think big when it comes to selecting an area rug. Instead of choosing a small rug for the side of your bed, opt for a larger rug that will nearly fill the entire space, as this can make the room appear larger. However, be sure to leave a small border of bare floor (between 5 to 13 centimeters) between the rug and the walls to create a balanced look.

If you have a twin or full-size bed in a small room, it's important to choose the right size area rug. Generally, twin-size beds measure around 99 centimeters wide by 190 centimeters long, while a twin XL (designed for taller people) measures 203 centimeters long. A full-size or double bed measures 137 centimeters wide by 190 centimeters long. Keep these dimensions in mind when selecting an area rug to ensure that it's the right size for your space.

Choosing the right size area rug for a large bedroom is important to maintain balance in the space. If you opt for a large rug that fills up most of the room, make sure to leave at least 8 inches of space between the edges of the rug and the walls.

In a larger room, you may have a queen-size or king-size bed. When selecting an area rug, keep in mind the measurements of larger beds. A queen-size bed measures 152 centimeters wide by 203 centimeters long. A king-size bed measures 193 centimeters wide by 203 centimeters long. A California king-size bed measures 183 centimeters wide by 213 centimeters long.
