Rug Guides
Washmellow Dark Brown is a soft, low pile washable rug in a deep, rich brown. It goes in the washing machine, grips the floor with a silicone-dot backing and is made for busy homes with children and pets.
Brand The Rugs
Pile material Polyester
Backing material Felt with silicone dots
Design Plain
Origin China
Construction Machine-made
Weight 400 gr/m2
Pile Height 9 mm
Colour Brown
Suitable for Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Nursery, Hallway
Certification OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

Why You'll Love It

  • This is a low pile rug at 9mm. It lays flat, it does not catch on doors, and it is quick to vacuum, so it works in busy rooms and homes with pets. You can still do your hoover lines. If you want something deep and plush to sink your feet into, this is not that rug, and our shaggy range is.
  • Machine washable at 30°C. Spills, muddy paws and everyday marks come out in the wash. Use a gentle 30°C cycle, dry it flat and do not tumble dry. Up to 120x160 fits a standard 7 kg machine, the 80x280 runner needs 8 kg or more, 140x200 may fit a 10 kg machine, and 160x220 and 200x280 need a larger commercial machine, such as one at a launderette.
  • Tested for harmful substances. Certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, so it is suitable for nurseries, bedrooms and homes with children and pets.
  • Stays where you put it. The felt backing has silicone dots that help it grip hard floors such as laminate, wood and tiles, and it is suitable for use over underfloor heating.
  • Soft underfoot, cushioned underneath. The short, dense polyester pile feels smooth and soft, and a felt middle layer adds comfort and helps to soften footsteps.
  • Made for real homes. Stain-resistant, non-shedding, hypoallergenic and pet-friendly, so it copes with children, dogs and the everyday. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, from the hallway and conservatory to a sheltered patio.
  • A deep, rich brown. Dark brown grounds a room with pale floors or a cream sofa and gives it a warm, finished feel. Darker colours show light fluff and pet hair more easily, so a quick vacuum keeps it looking its best. Screens show colour differently, so look at the room photos as well as the close-ups.
  • Eleven sizes, three shapes. From Small (50x80) by the door to Extra Large (200x280) for the living room, plus an 80x280 runner for hallways, Ø 80 and Ø 120 rounds and a 120x120 square. Measure your space first: in a living room, the rug should sit under at least the front legs of the sofa.
  • Someone real is here to help. Free UK Delivery and 30-day returns, and if anything is not right, our customer service team will sort it out.

Styling Tip: Contrast dark brown with cream walls, light linen and a touch of brass or gold. In a living room, add cushions in rust or ochre to bring out its warmth.

Frequently asked questions

How long does delivery take?

Most rugs arrive in 1-2 working days. Order before 12pm on a working day and we dispatch it the same day, then email your tracking number as soon as it leaves us. Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses. Couriers do not deliver on bank holidays, and a small number of rural postcodes carry a courier surcharge that is shown at checkout before you pay. Full details are in our shipping and return policy.

Can I return a rug if it is not right?

Yes. You have 30 calendar days from the day your rug is delivered to start a return. For rugs up to 90 cm wide, book a free Royal Mail return label and drop the parcel at any post office. For larger sizes, message us with your order number and we arrange a collection from your address. Please repack the rug in its original packaging, because rugs that reach us damaged cannot be refunded.

Which rug size should I choose?

Measure your furniture first, then the floor. In a living room, 160x230 cm sits well under a 3 seater sofa with the front legs on the rug, and 200x290 cm carries a full seating group in a larger room. Bedrooms usually want 120x170 cm beside the bed or 200x290 cm under a double, while hallways and galley kitchens suit an 80x300 cm runner. For dining rooms, allow about 60 cm of rug past the table on every side so chairs stay on the pile when they are pulled out, and our guide on how to choose the ideal rug for your room works through this room by room.

How do I clean and look after my rug?

Vacuum regularly and blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside of the mark inwards. Avoid soaking the rug, because a backing that stays wet for a long time can change shape. Many of our rugs are stain resistant rather than stain proof, so the sooner you deal with a spill the better the result. Full instructions, including wool and shaggy pile, are in our rug care guide.

What are your rugs made from?

Most of our rugs are woven from heat set polypropylene, which handles daily traffic and holds its colour, and the range also includes wool, viscose and jute pieces. Every product page lists pile material, backing, pile height, pile weight, construction and origin in the specification panel, so you can check the detail before you buy. Rugs tested to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 show that certification in the same panel. Where a rug suits underfloor heating, the product page says so.

Will the rug slide on hard floors?

On wood, tile and laminate a rug can shift, so we recommend a non-slip underlay, which also adds a little cushioning and protects the pile. A dense low pile with a jute backing sits flatter from the start than a deep shaggy pile. Creases from folding are normal and usually settle within a few days to a week once the rug is unrolled. You can add a rug gripper to your order from our rug accessories.
